らき☆すた 第1話 その3
らきすたを題材にして日常会話のセリフを学んでいきます。
解釈が間違っていたり、誤記があったりするかもしれません。

Konata:
Kagami's staying home 'cause she's got a cold, huh?
え ？ 今日かがみ 風邪で 休み？
stay home → 家にいる。stay at homeの表現もOK
get a cold → 風邪をひく。風邪は可算名詞。他にもheadache(頭痛)やtoothche(歯痛)など、症状を表す単語は可算名詞となる。
Tsukasa:
Mm-hmm. But at least she's only got a cold and not the flu, you know?
うん とりあえず インフルエンザ じゃ なさそうだけど。
at least → 少なくとも
flu → インフルエンザ。influenzaも同じ意味。fluは不可算名詞。何故、cold(風邪)は可算名詞なのにこっちは不可算名詞なのか。調べた結果、どうやら基本的に病名は不可算名詞でtheをつけ、症状は可算名詞になるらしい(例外あり)
Konata:
Thankfully I'm stupid, so I don't have to worry about catching flus and stuff.
私は バカ だから 、 インフルエンザ とか 心配ないけどね。
thankfully → ありがたいことに
stupid → ばかな
flus → 上でfluは不可算名詞といったばかりなのに、sが付いている。もう分からんなこれ。
stuff → (漠然とした)もの
Tsukasa:
I heard that works with a cold,
but I didn't know it was the same for the flu.
風邪は よく 聞くけど 、 インフルエンザ も 大丈夫なの ？
that → バカは風邪をひかないということを指している
Konata:
I thought the flu was the deluxe version of the cold.
You're saying that colds and flus are two different things?
え ？ 風邪と インフルエンザ って 違うの ？
てっきり 風邪の すごい 版かと。
deluxe → デラックスな、豪華な
Tsukasa:
I... I guess I think they're different things...
Or maybe they aren't, I don't know anymore.
I'm kinda confused now.
ち 、 違うと 思ったけど …
そう 聞かれると だんだん 自信が なくなって きた …
anymore → もはや
kinda → kind ofの口語表現。～の種類という意味もあるが、"ちょっと"、"なんか"という意味もあり、ここではその意味で使われている。
be + confused → 混乱している。
I'm kinda confusing nowという表現にすると私自身が混乱させるものになるので注意
Miyuki:
Oh, the difference between influenza and a cold?
え ？ インフルエンザ と 風邪の 違いですか ？

Miyuki:

Influenza is a viral illness with many symptoms such as fever and muscle aches.
If it's not treated, there's a risk of more serious complications.
On the other hand, the symptoms of a cold are sore throat and a runny nose,
and the fever doesn't run as high.
Those are just a few of the symptoms that differ from the flu.
えっと ですね 、 インフルエンザ は ウィルス 性ですが、
高熱、 筋肉痛 と 全身症状が 多く、
しかも 合併症の 恐れも あります。
一方、 風邪は 喉の 炎症や 鼻水が 主で 、 熱はそれほど高くなりません。
その 他 、 細部の 症状も 違います。
viral → ウイルスの
illness → 病気
symptom → 症状
such as → ～といった
ache → 痛み
treat → 治療する
on the other hand → 一方
sore → 痛み
throat → 喉
runny nose → 鼻水
differ from → 異なる
Konata:
Hmm...

Miyuki:
So to answer your question, yes, they are different illnesses.
ですから 、 このふたつは 違う病気ですよ。
Konata:
Oh, really...
なるほどぉ。
Miyuki:
Oh, but then again, colds and flus do share many common traits.
I guess one could say a flu is sort of a "scaled-up" version of a cold after all.
で 、 ですが まあ 、 重なる 部分も 割とあるので、
風邪の スケールアップ 版と 言えないことも … ないかも …

こなちゃん 、 難しい顔してどうしたの ？
look so serious → look + 形容詞で～のように見えるという意味なので、ここは "何でそんなに真剣そうなの？"となる
Konata:
Uh, it's nothin'.
Just something that's been buggin' me since our conversation this morning.
いや 、 大した 事じゃないけど、
今朝の 会話で 気になる コト が。
nothin' → nothing
that's been buggin' me → that has been bugging me → bugは"悩ます"という意味。またhave + been + ～ingの形になっているので現在完了進行形。現在完了進行形は"現在まだ完了してなく、進行中"というニュアンスなので、"朝から悩んでいて、今も悩み中"という意味になる。
since → ～から
Tsukasa:
Huh?
The one about colds and flus?
え ？ 風邪と インフルエンザ のこと ？
Konata:
You didn't disagree with me when I said I was stupid, did you, Tsukasa?
つかさ 、 私が バカ って 部分 、否定しなかったなぁって。
disagree with → ～に反対する
Tsukasa:
Wait, it's not like that!
I didn't mean...
ち 、 違っ、 そういうんじゃなくて …
Miki:
Hello, Konata-chan, come in.
こなた ちゃん 、 いらっしゃい
Tsukasa:
She came by to visit Sis.
お 姉ちゃんの お 見舞いに 来てくれたの？
come by → やってくる、立ち寄る
Miki:
Oh, thanks for coming to see her!
あら わざわざ ありがとう。
come to see → 会いにやってくる
Konata:
No worries, I'll just go up.

いえ お 邪魔しまあす。
go up → 上がるという意味。ここでは"家に上がる"
Konata:
Kagami sure is cute when she's sleeping, isn't she?
Okay, she's awake now.
かがみ って 意外に かわいい 寝顔してんだ。おお 起きた 、 起きた。
sure → ここでは強調の意味で使わている
Kagami:
How'd you get into my room?!
What are you doing here?!
Get out!
何だよ ！ 何しに 来たんだよ ！ 帰れよっ ！
get into → ～に入る
get out → 外にでる
Kagami:
Huh? You came by for a visit?
All the way out here to see me?
え ？ お 見舞い？ あんたが ？
私の ために わざわざ ？
visit → お見舞いを表現するときに使われる
all the way → "わざわざ"、"はるばる"という意味。
Konata:
Yup, that's right.
そうだよ。
Kagami:
Oh no. I appreciate the thought, but I'd feel terrible if you caught this thing.
で 、 でも うつしたら 悪いしさ。
気持ちだけ 貰うわよ。
appreciate → 感謝する
thought → 思いやり
Kagami:
Oh, this makes me so happy!
She's all worried about me because of that new virus that's going around.
I thought the only things she cared about were games and anime.
But now... this is so touching!
Huh?
ちぇ … 何よ 、 嬉しいじゃない。
新型の ウィルス とか 流行ってるから 、 心配してくれてるのか。
いつも ゲーム や アニメ の 事しか 考えてないと 思ったけど。
ちょっと 感動しちゃったじゃない。
virus → ウイルス
that's going around → virusを修飾しており、go around は"広まる"を意味している。
touching → 感動的な
Konata:
'Kay, so uh, I'm gonna copy that homework we got the other day.
But you don't have to get up, you cute little sleepy face you!
ほら 、 この 前出た宿題とか 見せて 貰いたいし、
あと いい 寝顔見せて 貰ったし 、 気にしなくて いいって。

Kagami:
Out!
かえれ ！
Miki:
Kagami! Miyuki-chan's come over to visit you!
かがみ 、 みゆき ちゃん が お 見舞いに 来てくれたわよ。
come over → 家に訪問する
Kagami:
Okay!
ふぅーい。
Miyuki:
May I come in?
お 邪魔します。
Kagami:
Oh, I hope this isn't too much trouble.
おお 、 休みに ごめんね。
Miyuki:
Not at all.
You should be resting though.

起きてて 大丈夫なん ですか ？
これ 、 お 見舞いです。
Not at all → "少しも～でない"、"どう致しまして"
Kagami:
Thank you.
I'm feeling a lot better now.
I took some medicine, so my fever is down.
ありがとう。
もう ほとんど 平気。
薬飲んだら 、 熱も 引いたし。
Miyuki:
Here.

Kagami:
Wow! You brought me flowers and fruit!
You shouldn't have!
Come on, sit down.
おお 、 お 花とか フルーツ とか 嬉しいなあ。
ああ 、 座ってよ。
you shouldn't have → 直訳すると"あなたは持っているべきではない"になるので、"わざわざありがとう"、"気を遣わせてごめん"という意味になる
Miyuki:
Oh, thank you, I will.
I had thought of coming by to visit you with Izumi-san.
Unfortunately, I just couldn't seem to find any time. I'm sorry.

Kagami:
No, really. It's fine!
いいって 、 いいって。
Miyuki:
Ah, I almost forgot. I brought you the minutes from the last committee meeting.
あ、 委員会の 会議資料、 預かって 来てますよ。
minutes → "分"という意味もあるが、"議事録"という意味もある。"議事録"という意味で使うときは必ず複数形にする。
Kagami:
Oh, well, thank you!
サンキュー。
Miyuki:
Have a look at it when you can, but only when you're feeling up to it.
There's no rush.
お 体に 障らない 程度に 目を 通していただければ。
have a look at → ちょっと見る
feel up → 気分が乗る
rush →急ぐ
Kagami:
Hm.
うん。
Miyuki:
There's that and I have the budget requests for each club here.
What else was there, let me see now... let's see...
Oh, but you're not feeling all right now! I should go home so you can rest.
それと 、 これが 各クラブ の 予算書と 、
それから … なんだったかしら …
あ 、 お 体に 障るようでしたら 、もう 帰りますので。

Kagami:

やっぱり、 お 見舞いって 、 こうよねっ。
Miyuki:
What do you mean?
What happened?
な 、 何かあったんですか ？
Kagami:
Well, you know how Konata came by yesterday?
That's what happened.
実は昨日こなた が 来てさあ、
やれやれだよ。
Miyuki:
Maybe that was just Izumi-san's funny little way of showing you she cared.
Perhaps the bit with the homework was her attempt at cheering you up, Kagami-san.
And maybe she was trying not to wake you up,
but couldn't help noticing you as you slept.
And that would certainly explain how she saw you sleeping.
それは もしかしたら 、泉さん なりの 思いやりかも しれませんよ ？
宿題の ことは おどけて 見せて、
かがみ さん を 元気付けようと したのかも しれませんし。
寝顔のことは、騒がしくならないよう 配慮した 際の不可抗力かもしれませんし。
Perhaps → おそらく
bit → "お決まりのしぐさ"という意味があるので、おそらくここではその意味で使われている。"宿題をコピーするというお決まりのしぐさは"と訳すとしっくりくる。
attempt at → ～への試み
Kagami:
I never would've thought of it that way!

Miyuki:
Oh, I just realized. I haven't seen Tsukasa-san today.
そういえば 、今日はつかさ さん は いらっしゃらないんですか ？
Tsukasa:
Morning...
Are you feeling any better today, Sis?
You need anything?
おふぁよぉ… お 姉ちゃん体の 具合良くなったあ ？
Kagami:
Look at that.
My sister isn't even sick and she's more relaxed than I am.
あのように 病人よりも ゆったりとした 生活を してるわ。
be + relaxed → (既に)リラックスしている。今まさにリラックスしている最中を表現したいときはbe + relaxingを使う
Tsukasa:
Well, it's not like I'm always sleeping in this late, really.
Today's like "Spring Sleep Dawn" something or other.
Oh! By the way, good morning!
あ 、 あのね いつもは こうじゃ 無いんだけど。
今日は春眠暁が どうのって やつで …
あ 、 遅れたけど 、 いらっしゃい。
Spring Sleep Dawn → ここで本来表現したいのは「春眠暁を覚えず」という諺。ちゃんと英語で表現するなら、 In spring one sleeps a sleep that knows no dawn.となる。
Miyuki:
Oh, I know how that is.
Lately even I'm having trouble waking up in the morning.
分かりますよ 、 私も 最近なかなか 起きられなくて …

Tsukasa:
Yeah, I know. And I've been so sleepy lately...
そ 、 そうだよね。

Miyuki:
Me too. It's especially warm out today, so that doesn't help either.
そうですよねぇ 、 今日は特に暖かいですものね。
Tsukasa:
Mm-hm, isn't it though?
うんうん 、 それそれ。
Miyuki:
You really can't help it.
仕方ないですよ。
can't help it → (自分の力では)どうしようもない
Tsukasa:
Wasn't it warm a couple of days ago during our break?
この 前の 休みも 暖かかったじゃない ？
a couple of → 2,3の
Miyuki:
It was.
ええ。
Tsukasa:
When I woke up, it was just starting to get dark.
I spent the whole day sleeping.
Can you believe it?
目が 覚めたら、 もう 夕方だったの。
ほとんど 寝て過ごしちゃったのね。
spend ～ing → ～に時間を費やす(spend to Vという用法はないので注意)
Miyuki:
It's a good thing if you can rest up when you have the day off.
休める 時には 休んだ 方がいいですよ。
rest up → 休息する
Tsukasa:
Yeah, but the thing is, I was in my pajamas all day.
Oh! Like today!
結局、 その 日一日パジャマ で 過ごしちゃった。
あっ、 今もか、 えへへへ。
the thing is → ここでは"実を言うと"と訳す。the thing is はネイティブが使う口癖で、会話の中で無言にならないように会話を繋ぐときとかに使われる
Miyuki:
I had no idea those were your pajamas.
え ？ 今着てるの、 それ パジャマ なんですか ？
Tsukasa:
Oh yeah, they're my jammies!
あ、 うん、 そうだよ。
jammies → パジャマ
Miyuki:
I think they're adorable! Why, they don't even look like pajamas.
すごく かわいいですね。 パジャマ には 見えませんよ。
adorable → 可愛らしい、愛らしい
Tsukasa:
You think so?
本当に ？
Miyuki:
Yes.
ええ。
Tsukasa:
Do you think it's okay if I wear them all day?
このまま いても 平気かな ？
Miyuki:
I think you could even go outside in them.
ええ 、 外も 普通に 歩けそうです。
go outside → 外出する
Tsukasa:
I wonder...
コンビニ とかも 行けるかな ？
Kagami:
Jeez, would someone get to the punchline already?
ああ … 何かもう ボケ と フォロー が エンドレス …
punchline → (ジョークなどの)聞かせどころ、オチ
get to で"辿り着く"の意味なので、"誰かオチに辿りつかせて"という意味になる
